A cold room's compressor starts and stops all day. Each start draws far more power than it does while running. A generator sized only for the running load will strain, trip or overheat. That is why cold room generators are always sized with headroom.
Bigger rooms and colder settings need larger compressors. All prices here are for freezer rooms held at −18°C.
Our engineers set a recommended kVA for each room size, allowing for the compressor's starting current.
If the recommendation falls between standard generator sizes (for example 25kVA), we supply the next size up (30kVA), never smaller.
Grid hours, other loads on the same supply and room for expansion are checked on a site visit before we confirm.

It depends on the room size and compressor. For freezer rooms at −18°C, Links Energies recommends a 15kVA kit for a 5-tonne room, a 30kVA kit for 10–25 tonnes, and a 40/45kVA kit for 30–50 tonnes. The full list is in the table above.
Some recommendations fall between standard generator sizes. We always round up, because an undersized generator struggles every time the compressor starts. For example, a 25kVA load gets our 30kVA kit.
